How to approach: Emphasise correct diagnosis, dose, timing and the harvest interval; mention integrated pest management before reaching for a product. In the UK, BASIS/FACTS qualifications frame this.
Sample answer outline: A product is the last step; first I assess the correct diagnosis and the integrated pest management options. If a product is needed, I follow the label dose, correct timing and the harvest interval strictly. 4. What approach do you take when communicating with growers?
Why they ask: It measures the ability to get technical knowledge applied in the field; a side of the job at least as critical as the technical one.
How to approach: Give an example of speaking the grower’s language rather than academic jargon and building a relationship of trust.
Sample answer outline: In communicating with a grower I use the language of the field rather than technical jargon; I listen first and understand their existing habits.
